Nothing To Report

Today was an otherwise uneventful day. We are waiting to hear some news on a couple places to live, you know, because the mortgage company has decided they can make more money from the sale of our house on the courthouse steps than they can if I take the next couple decades paying for it.

Speaking of those who would rather kick my family to the curb than work with us to resolve this obvious paperwork error, I received another letter from the mortgage company yesterday. They are still “calling the note” and now it’s about $400+ dollars more than it was last week. It’s amazing how those artificial costs keep mounting day by day.

On a brighter note, I discovered Newsradio on Netflix Instant Play tonight, so I am settling in to watch the first 5 or 6 episodes tonight. What did we do when we couldn’t summon shows to watch on demand? Hopefully we haven’t been too spoiled by technology.

Oh that reminds me, I need to charge my iPhone so I don’t miss any messages tomorrow. 😉

When All Is Said And Done

It’s hard to describe what I’ve been feeling for the past ten days.

Ever since I inadvertently discovered that the mortgage company was up to no good, I think I’ve been in a state of shock. August 26th will be the seventh anniversary since we signed the papers and got the keys to this house, and it still seems rather surreal that by August 26th we could very well be packing to move out.

Each day is different. I wake up refreshed (amazingly), but within moments of waking up my head begins to feel like I am swimming in a fog as I realize I have not been dreaming. My wife and I have been making numerous phone calls to family members, attorneys, and real estate agents.

Several family members have offered assistance, for which I am genuinely grateful for. The two attorneys I spoke with think we’ll have a good case to get some of our money back, but they both doubt that anything will occur to help us stay in the house. We’ve spoken to a few real estate agents as we attempt to find another home, even a temporary one, so we don’t have to worry about where we will be going. We need that security, if nothing else, for our kids.

As my day progresses I begin to get a headache from the weight of everything we’re enduring in this fiasco.

From the end of February until this past week, I heard nothing from our mortgage company. No letters, no phone calls, nothing. After my accidental discovery of their plan to take our home, I have received six letters. The first one was a regular letter demanding over $163,000. The second one was a registered version of the same letter. Letters three through six were two regular and two certified copies of the exact same letter. That’s right. So far, since my discovery I have received SIX copies of the same letter from the mortgage company telling me they want the full amount of the mortgage.

I think they’ve made their position very clear.

As the sun sets each day my headaches subside, mostly due to the different medications I take to keep them at bay, and I seem to relax a bit. I think it has more to do with mental exhaustion more than anything, but at least I am still sleeping good at night.

Then again, why shouldn’t I be? It’s not like I work for a big box mortgage company that plans and plots to steal homes from innocent homeowners across our great nation. I wonder how many other people are losing their homes because the executives at their mortgage company would rather take advantage of government insurance and bailout options than maintain their investment in the American dream?

As far as our situation is concerned, they may knock us down, but our faith in God will keep us strong, and my family will rise above this and find ourselves on the winning end when all is said and done.

The Only Change Is Failure

If President Obama isn’t going to step up and accept his responsibilities as President, maybe it’s time he resigned. I’m serious. The environmental and economic impact of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is going to devastate the SouthEast United States for years, if not decades. More than fifty days have passed and nothing has been done to slow, let alone stop, the leak.

In yesterday’s post I wrote about Section 311 of the Clean Water Act and the Oil Pollution Act of 1990, and President Obama’s responsibility to gain control of the situation. He hasn’t, but not only is he shrugging his responsibility, I am beginning to think he is singlehandedly making the situation even worse than it was going to be.

There are a couple reasons why I feel this way…

Reason #1

Section 27 of the Merchant Marine Act of 1920, known as the Jones Act, requires that all goods transported by water between U.S. ports be carried in U.S. flagged ships. Those ships must be constructed in the United States, owned by U.S. citizens, and operated by U.S. citizens and permanent residents.

Because of the Jones Act, ships from many different countries are unavailable to help with clean up and recovery efforts in the Gulf Of Mexico. Mexico, Canada, Norway, Belgium, and The Netherlands have all offered help. All of their offers have been refused because of the Jones Act.

British Petroleum (BP) estimates that cleanup will take nine months without foreign assistance. With help from experts worldwide it could be done in three.

In 2005, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff waived the Jones Act for 18 days to get the gas and oil supply line moving again.

Why hasn’t the Obama Administration waived the Jones Act? What is the motive for allowing the oil to spread across the Gulf Of Mexico unchecked?

Reason #2

Governor Jindal of Louisiana has requested supplies to protect the beaches in his state. More than fifty days later he’s still listening to crickets.

Why hasn’t the Obama Administration allowed states to protect their wetlands and shorelines? What is the motive for allowing the oil to contaminate fragile wildlife refuges and fishing grounds that are vital to the area economy?

Reason #3

After the Exxon Valdez ran aground at Prince William Sound, Alaska in 1989, natural oil eating bacteria was used to clean up the ocean and shores. More than fifty days after the Deep Horizon explosion, the company which produces up to 200,000 gallons a day of the bacteria has not been contacted by the Obama Administration.

Why hasn’t the Obama Administration returned their calls? What is the motive for ignoring such a successful clean up solution?

Reason #4

There are several other possible solutions which could aid in the capping of the well (remember Red Adair’s team which capped 628 wells in 9 months over in Kuwait) and the removal of oil from the water in the Gulf Of Mexico (lookup Kevin Costner’s oil cleaning centrifuges), but the Obama Administration has done nothing.

Keep in mind, President Obama still hasn’t declared the area a disaster area. Why not? What is the motive for ignoring every possible solution and every single offer of assistance?

So, those are my four reasons, in addition to ignoring his legal responsibilities as outlined in the Clean Water Act and the Oil Pollution, why President Obama should resign as President of the United States.

As of this post, more than 38 million gallons of oil are floating in the waters off our Southern shore. Hesitation by the Obama Administration is killing marine life, endangering wildlife, destroying fragile wetlands, and devastating the economy of millions of people along the Gulf coast.

There is no hope. There is no change. There is only failure. President Obama’s failure. If he isn’t going to perform his duties as President he should resign. Immediately.

Like Lambs To The Slaughter House

We’re still waiting to see what’s actually in the bill they are going to attempt to “deem as passed”.

For weeks now we have heard President Obama tell us all why he thinks this health care bill should pass. Of course, no matter how much he speaks, he never actually gives one good reason for believing so. Back room deals have been made, arms have been twisted, and now he’s resorting to threats to get the bill passed.

The president will refuse to make fund-raising visits during November elections to any district whose representative has not backed the bill.

A one-night presidential appearance can bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars in funds which would otherwise take months to accumulate through cold-calling by campaign volunteers.

So there you have it. If a Democrat does not back the current bill, President Obama plans to hang them out to dry come November.

That really isn’t an issue though. In fact, it’s quite an incentive to oppose the bill. Each candidate Barack Obama has campaigned for, has lost their bid for re-election.

Back in November, he campaigned for Jon Corzine in New Jersey yet Chris Christie won by more than 5 percentage points. He campaigned in Virginia for Creigh Deeds and Bob McConnell ran away with the election with an 18 percent margin. This year, Scott Brown defeated Martha Coakley by more than 4 points in the special election to fill Edward “Fat Teddy” Kennedy’s seat in Massachusetts.

Forget the fact that voting against this bill will solidify any re-election chances, if I was a Democrat serving in the U.S. House of Representatives or the U.S. Senate and I was up for re-election this year, I would still be voicing my opposition to this bill.

It doesn’t make sense to pass this bill when it adds so much to our federal deficit, takes away our rights as Americans, and will end up burdening the American taxpayers for years to come.

President Obama has been lying about this health care bill for so long, he ‘s no longer even trying to pretend anymore.

Watch this video, where he states, “Your employer, it’s estimated, would see premiums fall by as much as 3000 percent which means they could give you a raise.”

Sounds good doesn’t it? Let’s presume your employer is paying $400 per month for your insurance. Do the math people. If the premium for your coverage dropped 3000% that means your employer would save $12,000 per month just on your coverage alone. Does this mean your employer will be paid by the government $11,600 per month to employ you? Premiums cannot drop more than 100% before you hit $0.00. Again, do the math.

In an article at American Spectator today, Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI) wrote,

First, using the “Slaughter House Rules” to skirt a substantive vote and “deem as passed” the Senate’s government-run health care bill would violate constitutionally prescribed procedures for duly passing and enacting federal legislation. Obviously, this dysfunctional legislative branch’s Leftist majority cares little about this pesky “supreme law of the land.”

Nancy Pelosi may like the idea, but Article I, Section VII, Clause II of the U.S. Constitution states,

Every Bill which shall have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate, shall, before it become a Law, be presented to the President of the United States; If he approve he shall sign it, but if not he shall return it, with his Objections to that House in which it shall have originated, who shall enter the Objections at large on their Journal, and proceed to reconsider it. If after such Reconsideration two thirds of that House shall agree to pass the Bill, it shall be sent, together with the Objections, to the other House, by which it shall likewise be reconsidered, and if approved by two thirds of that House, it shall become a Law. But in all such Cases the Votes of both Houses shall be determined by Yeas and Nays, and the Names of the Persons voting for and against the Bill shall be entered on the Journal of each House respectively…

If Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer, Louise Slaughter, Harry Reid, and President Barack Obama (also known as the SlaughterHouse Five) use the “Slaughter House Rules” to pass this bill, the bill itself will be tied up in the courts longer than it would take to pay for the bill in the first place and Democrats will be defeated (like lambs to the slaughterhouse) left and right this coming election.

Meanwhile, we wait to see what’s going to be in the bill.

The Postulations And Hypocrisy Continue

Taking the night to read more on the pending health care “debate” in the House. While I do my research, enjoy these topics you might find interesting.

If you want to read the latest release by the Democrats, which seems to be just a set of reconciliation instructions and a copy of the Senate bill, you can visit the House website (PDF). I highly recommend some protection though, as you never know what you might catch while you are there.

Offshore Drilling:

Our secretary of energy pushes bio-refineries and windmills to oil executives at an energy conference as the administration announces a three-year offshore drilling ban.

Isn’t nice to know he’s consistent. President Obama supports energy independence and offshore drilling in Brazil, but not here at home. Hypocrite.

Are you one of the few people out there who are still fooled by this whole health care debacle? If so, just remember that the system they want to put in place is the same type of system that is killing people in the United Kingdom.

Up to 20,000 people have died needlessly early after being denied cancer drugs on the NHS, it was revealed yesterday.

The rationing body NICE has failed to keep a promise to make more life-extending drugs available.

Treatments used widely in the U.S. and Europe have been rejected on grounds of cost-effectiveness, yet patients and their loved ones have seen the NHS waste astronomical sums.

Put that in your syringe and pump it. Wake up people.

More tomorrow.

The World According To Janet

Janet Napolitano is lucky the whiplash from her tongue didn’t kill her. After the attempt by a terrorist to blow up an airliner on approach to Detroit, she claimed that the system worked as it should have.

“Once this incident occurred, everything went according to clockwork… Blah, blah, blah, I look like an Andes Mint in this outfit, blah, blah, blah… Again, everybody reacted as they should, the system, once the incident occurred, the system worked.”

Then, just a day later, she back pedaled, claimed that everyone was taking her quote out of context, and then agreed that the system failed miserably.

The Obama administration and Janet Napolitano have a serious problem with the war on terror, and she sums it up well in her response to Matt Lauer.

“Sure, I think the comment is being taken out of context. What I’m saying is, once the incident occurred, moving forward, we were immediately able to notify the 128 flights in the air of protective measures to take, immediately able to notify law enforcement on the ground, airports both domestic and internationally, all carriers, all of that happening within 60 to 90 minutes.”

They are actually proud that the “system worked” after the incident occurred. They are proud that they reacted after the terrorist was thwarted. They are proud that they did something after the guy tried to blow up the plane.

Let’s forget the fact the man was on a terror list. Let’s forget the fact the man had no passport. Let’s forget the fact that if it wasn’t for some brave passengers there would have been a lot more to react to after the fact.

Janet Napolitano is proud that they were able to get the word out and respond within 60 to 90 minutes. Sorry, that’s not good enough. Responding within 60 to 90 minutes wouldn’t have changed anything on September 11th, and it sure as hell didn’t do anything to change the events which took place on Christmas day.

American citizens stopped this attack, not the Department of Homeland Security, not the Transportation Security Administration, not the Obama Administration. Everyday people like you and me stepped up at the right time, made the right decision, and made sure the terrorist didn’t succeed. Too bad the government dropped the ball and allowed him to put all of their lives in jeopardy in the first place.

We don’t need a President (or anyone in his administration) who responds to terror attacks, we need a President who will make sure that steps are taken to prevent incidents like this from occurring at all. The Department of Homeland Security should, by definition of its very name, keep the homeland secure, shouldn’t it? In this case, they failed. They failed miserably.

If The Failed One® is serious about homeland security and keeping our country safe, he will ask for Janet Napolitano’s resignation. Don’t worry, I won’t hold my breath waiting for that to happen.
