An Unlikely Saturday

After last night’s post I needed a nice relaxing day and that’s exactly what I got today.

I took the boys over to Sweetwater Creek State Park, one of our favorite places for birdwatching, and we spent the afternoon watching the Double Crested Cormorant (seen in the photo to the left, click it to enlarge).

The reservoir is still mirky from the flooding a couple weeks ago, and we have more heavy rain coming in tomorrow afternoon. The Ospreys were nowhere to be seen, but we did get to see the Kingfishers, Blue Herons, and of course all the ducks and geese.

I was planning to do a long post about President Obama’s impassioned last-minute pitch to try and secure the Olympics for Chicago in 2016, but to tell the truth I just don’t see the point in mentioning his name, or the fact that he completely failed, over something so benign.

I also considered writing about the revelation that Iranian Presiden, Achmed I’mANutJob, was mostly likely born Jewish. I just watched a documentary a couple weeks ago regarding Hitler’s Jewish heritage, so I couldn’t help but wonder if this is one of those prime examples of history repeating itself. If it’s not, I sure don’t know what is.

For the remainder of the evening, I am going to play Tetris and Chain Rxn on my iPhone. I had hoped to make this a total “downtime” weekend and so far, it’s working out to be just that.
