After nearly three months out of work, I realized you can look for jobs on Craig’s List. I know, I know, I just figured this out today. I don’t know why, but I never thought to look for jobs there.
It turns out that looking on Craig’s List can be just as productive (or even more productive) than working with a recruiter. How do I know this? Because, I took the time today to write cover letters and apply for four jobs I found on the site. I’ve already had contact with two of the potential employers and I have a phone interview scheduled first thing tomorrow.
The day took a very strange turn this afternoon when the phone rang, and it was my former employer. I hadn’t heard a single word from them since the day they let me go, so it was very strange talking to him on the phone. He told me that he has had a few reference calls and assured me that he has given me great recommendations. I asked him if he would write a reference letter that I could distribute with my resume and reference list, and he will be sending it soon.
Within a couple hours of speaking to him, I received an email from Gmail regarding one of my accounts. Someone was trying to reset the password. Funny thing about that. I have had that Gmail account since Gmail started and no one has ever done that before. Is it a coincidence that I only used that Gmail account while I was employed at the former employer? Is it a coincidence that I had just spoken to the former employer a few hours before the attempt? The email from Gmail states, “If you’ve received this mail in error, it’s likely that another user entered your email address by mistake while trying to reset a password“. Unless the other Gmail user was named Slobodan, I highly doubt it was a typo. Too bad I don’t believe in coincidences, huh?
The headcold seemed to ease up a bit today. I’ve been hacking up a lung, but things seem to be much better tonight, which is good, because I don’t want to sound too stuffy on the phone tomorrow.
It figures that strange things would happen today, there was a full moon tonight. Maybe things won’t be so strange tomorrow…
